Michael Phelps has announced the selection of photos that will be included in his 2014 SSL Weather & Nature Calendar.  This is the second year that Mike has produced a calendar as a major fundraiser for the StormScapeLive business.  Mike travels around the US not only in the plains states during tornado season, but also along the Gulf Coast and the Southeastern Atlantic Coast to live stream extreme weather events to his audience.  This year he has chosen several of his favorite tornado shots along with some stunning nature shots from his collection.  He is also honoring the memory of our friend Neely Gillcrist by featuring one of her photos from our trip to Saskatchewan as both the cover shot and representing the month of September as well.  I am also honored to have two photographs featured that will represent the months of March and December.

Having spent 10 days on the road this summer with Mike, I can tell you first hand how passionate he is about this work.  It is his goal to take his “little” storm chasing business and make it into his full time job in the near future.  Part of his plan will include visiting schools with the Portable SSL Tornado Device that he will take to schools for a very special in-house storm chasing field trip.  This not only will educate the children on the science of these storms, but will also prepare them so they will know what to do if they are ever in a tornado warned storm area.  This is a really important project and can only be funded by donations from his viewing audience.
