Day # 6 – July 12th

Friday!  Holy smokes this week is flying by! We head out to the Cowboy Cafe for breakfast. I order the double up (2 eggs, 2 pan cakes, 2 bacon) & coffee. So much food and I’m still full from last night but before you know it, there’s not a crumb on my plate. I devoured it! Must be the fresh mountain air! Wink, wink 😉

On the way to the Grand Tetons we have our first brown bear sightings. The air is so clean and perfumed with the scent of sage and wild flowers that are growing everywhere. We first stop at Jenny Lake and get out to take a walk along a portion of a lake side trail along the edge of the woods. All you can hear is the sounds of nature. Birds chirping, butterflies and other insects buzzing by you, and the sound of water from the lake lapping the rocky shore and across the lake are the Grand Teton mountains. WOW.

Living our adventure to the fullest, we take the summit road. The sign reads “Caution, Narrow Road, Steep Climb, 20 mph, No trailers” Oh boy here we come. We make it to the top and we are at the Jackson Point Overlook. You have Jackson Lake with the Grand Tetons. The sight is just breathtaking. I just stand there and soak in the view. Simply magnificent! I hand off my camera to Randy and allow him to take a rare photo of me with the Grand Teton peak behind me. The skies around the mountains have been hazy so I know the pictures will not do them justice but to me seeing them in person I am in awe of their presence.

There are a lot of butterflies around, all different sizes and colors. I try several times to take pictures only to have them fly off at the last second. I offer up a little prayer to my cousin Kathy who was a huge butterfly fan and ask her to just sit still for a moment and sure enough one stops and I get two shots off. Ah so thankful Kathy, I do love my flutterbies.

We move on to Yellowstone and time it just right for a viewing of Old Faithful erupting. Mike knew where the live stream cam was set up so we position our selves in a spot where hopefully the SSL viewers will be able to see us as we are unable to get a stream out, and sure enough someone managed to spot us and got a screen shot. Great job guys! We move on to Biscuit Basin to see some Hot Pots, the Wall Pool and the magnificent Sapphire Pool. Oh the color is just so blue and the water is crystal clear. You can actually see the sides of the pool and way down almost to the bottom. And then we pass Fire in the Hole River.

We road the Rim of the Caldera in Yellowstone! Woo Hoo!

I take some video of Lewis Lake on our ride back to DuBois and on our ride we have several deer sightings and then the most bizarre thing happens – a cow runs across the road! Not a deer but a cow! There is a heard on the side of the road and apparently some of them had not crossed over yet and this guy just flew across. Luckily we saw him in time so as not to hit him. Thank goodness for that!
